City Library Blitz: 1st Saturday each month

This Saturday, 6th September, 2025, Newcastle Chess Club are beginning a series of lunchtime Open Blitz tournaments at Newcastle City Library – running on the first Saturday of each month.

The idea behind these tournaments is to give everyone a chance to play organised, affordable competitive chess on a weekend, especially if they are busy during the working/school week.

As well as Blitz tournaments, we will be organising Classical and Rapidplay chess events at the City Library on Saturday lunchtimes.

The tournaments are open to absolutely everyone, regardless of which chess club (if any) you belong to. We do recommend that you become an ECF member here: https://www.englishchess.org.uk/ecf-membership-rates-and-joining-details/

Entry fees of £5 will be taken (in cash only, please!) on the day, and all entry fees will be returned as prizes.
